He's notoriously known as the player who quit the Houston Rockets in the middle of their 1995 Championship run, but without him, they wouldn't have won the championship the year before. Vernon Maxwell spent his time in the NBA earning label after label due to his temper and attitude, whether it was unpredictable, crazy or even psycho, Mad Max has heard it all. But he was also a great complimentary player to Hakeem Olajuwon and one of the best 3 point shooters of the 90s. Consistency eluded him, as one of the streakiest shooters of all time, but he could still score from anywhere and we did catch fire, he could fill it up quick. His reputation for partying caused him to fall in the 1988 NBA draft then be traded from the San Antonio Spurs to the Houston Rockets after less than 2 seasons. But in Houston, he teamed with Olajuwon, Otis Thorpe, Robert Horry, Kenny Smith, and Sam Cassell as a key member of Clutch City. But when Clyde Drexler arrived in 1995, Maxwell felt slighted by the Rockets organization, and wasn't there much longer, spending the rest of his career as a journeyman. But there's still a reason why Mad Max spent 13 seasons in the NBA and had significant roles for the majority of that time. So even though he's a polarizing figure in the history of basketball and a player who most fans had a love-hate relationship with, Vernon MAxwell was fearless and wasn't going to change for anyone.
