Post-Gospel Hymn
Quqoyo

Performed by Kripa Kurien & Adarsh Paul Varghese

The rich, melodic, and poetic liturgical music that Malankara Church in Kerala currently follows is one of the most beautiful and carefully crafted forms of Christian Orthodox chanting. Our music is known as ekarra, and has been passed down from the early Church Fathers who composed these chants with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. To have the opportunity to learn, study and meditate on the melodic structure and arrangement of the Ekarra is truly a blessing and rare opportunity for the faithful of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. I hope that these videos serve as a useful aid and resource for learning the Ekarra. In Syriac, the phrase used for this form of musical chanting is ‘Beth- gazo,’ which means ‘house of treasure.’ Indeed, our musical chanting is a true treasure for Malankara Orthodox Christians.
